Signs and Advertisements
Signing is an important aspect of any community. When abused, signing creates a visual blight which detracts from the quality of the environment. When unduly restricted, the lack of signing creates a hardship on merchants who rely on effective signing to identify their establishments.
Further, exterior signs affect the economic and aesthetic values and character of the community in that the City is highly dependent upon the traveling tourist who seeks out Cody for its character and who spend money on local merchants. Orderly signing also contributes to the protections and promotion of the health, safety, and welfare of the traveling public and the citizens of Cody.
The Municipal Code sets forth the requirements for sign locations, heights, sizes, and lighting. These requirements are based on the zoning of your business’ property or location; there are four sign districts, including one for the Downtown Cody Historic District.
