The City of Cody will soon demolish the historic house at 1374 Rumsey Avenue in Cody, adjacent to City Hall, to put in a parking lot.
The City purchased the lot at 1374 Rumsey and planned, from the beginning, to make the lot into a parking area. However, because of the house's history, the City sought to offer citizens a chance to salvage the house as a whole (by moving it) or at least to salvage its materials. An advertisement and bid packet was put together to inform citizens they could bid on it with significant time to bid, and there were no bids.
An article recently appeared on “Basin Reboot” with a few downhearted comments. The Mayor provided a comment to remind citizens of the bid process. Nevertheless, there were no bidders; however, if anyone now is interested in the house for salvage or relocation, please contact City Hall immediately and the City will discuss the conditions of a contract for a services arrangement. Contact must be made by 5:00 PM on Monday, July 6, 2015. If no contact is made, the City will proceed with the demolition of the house.
