Temporary Crosswalk Installed on Big Horn Avenue

A temporary pedestrian crossing has been installed on Big Horn Avenue immediately west of Freedom Street for the start of the new school year. The temporary crossing will be used for testing and data collection for the next several months, and will provide an opportunity for pedestrians to cross Big Horn Avenue during the testing period. Pedestrians and motorists are asked to be aware of the following:

  • The temporary pedestrian crossing will be in place from the start of school through approximately the Thanksgiving Holiday (weather and operational dependent).

  • Left turns will be prohibited at the intersection of Big Horn Avenue & Freedom Street through the entire duration of the temporary crossing installation.  Please reference the graphics below (click for PDF) for additional information providing alternate detour routes to and around the Cody Middle School.

  • Park County School District #6 will attempt to have a crossing guard (based on staff availability) both in the morning and afternoon to help students navigate the temporary crossing.

  • The two gates on Cougar Avenue east of Freedom Street will be opened allowing vehicles an alternate route to/from Stone Street and Big Horn Avenue.

  • Please check the school day start time for your child’s specific school as the school district has made some adjustments for the upcoming school year.

  • Please check the school website for busing information as additional bus routes have also been added this year.
